Frequently (and some not-so-frequently) Asked Questions

Q. Who’s that dog on your brochure?
A. That’s Wiggins. Sunny and Rob Fitchett belong to him. He’s a frequent guest in the Little Lake office. He sleeps under the desk.

Q. Is it a comedy?
A. Most of our plays are. Sometimes they aren’t. And just because it isn’t a comedy doesn’t mean you won’t like it or that it’s a tragic, heart-wrenching drama. A Shayna Maidel isn’t a comedy—but it’s a lovely, familial play that is warm and engaging.

Q. Why don’t you sell tickets online?
A. What? You mean you don’t want to talk to us? We WANT to sell tickets online and are in the process of trying to figure out how. It’s complicated for us. We have flexible seating that doesn’t lend itself to a standard way of selecting seats. We have in-the-round staging and that means sometimes a piece of furniture blocks a few front row seats and we don’t always know which sightlines will be problematic until a play’s final rehearsal period. But, we are working on it and, hopefully, will experiment with some online seating this season.

Q. Is the theater air-conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter?
A. Yes and yes. However, bring a sweater in the summer and in the winter. The building is a quaint, old, leaky relic…

Q. Who’s been in the most plays at Little Lake Theatre?
A. Our founder, Will Disney—by a long shot. Between 1949 and 1996, he appeared in 343 plays.

Q. I’ve never heard of the play…Will I still like it?
A. When you’re deciding upon a movie to attend, do you only choose movies you’ve already seen? Don’t shy away from titles that are unfamiliar. Read the play’s description…phone us…email us…we’ll give you a good idea of what the play is about.

Q. How old should my child be to attend a Looking Glass Theatre play?
A. It’s rarely appropriate for a child under age 3 to attend one of our plays. We believe whole-heartedly that our intimate in-the-round staging, where everybody sits within 20 feet of the action, lends itself to being the most engaging introduction to live theater for children. However, it is also important for children to understand theater manners, and the intimacy of our space can lead disruptive children to become terrible distractions for others in the audience. We want your child’s theater experience to be engaging and joyful.

Q. Can my company sponsor a production?
A. Absolutely. We have various sponsorship levels with a wide variety of glorious perks. Please contact: Rob Fitchett at rob@littlelake.org or Sunny Disney Fitchett sunny@littlelake.org.

Q. Do you serve dinner?
A. Not anymore. There has been a proliferation of wonderful restaurants in our neighborhood. Please see our PLAN YOUR VISIT link for restaurant ideas. When dining at one of our area restaurants before a performance, always remember to inform the waiter that you need to make an 8:00 curtain at Little Lake. And, remember, save room for dessert at the Lake! For our mainstage plays, we have delicious desserts on our café menu and, if you order before the play begins, we will deliver your dessert to you at intermission.

Q. If I can’t make your Season Auditions in the spring, may I audition at another time?
A. All of our mainstage season directors are in attendance for our general auditions so it to your advantage to attend those auditions. However, if you cannot, please fill out an ONLINE APPLICATION and mail it, along with a clear photo (or head shot) and a resume (if you have one) to the attention of Artistic Director, Sunny Disney Fitchett at Little Lake Theatre. We will keep your information on file, and invite you to attend a callback audition if there is a role for which we feel you might be considered.

Q. Can children audition?
A. When there are roles for children in our mainstage season we encourage them to audition during the spring Season Auditions. In our 2011 mainstage season, there are roles for teens but not for children. However, watch this website for audition announcements for our Looking Glass Theatre and Fall Family Matinee plays.

Q. How is the barn on your property used?
A. The barn is used by mosquitoes in the summer, feral cats throughout the year and an occasional black snake in the basement. Mostly, it is used for storage and as our rehearsal space. If you were to attend a mid-November evening rehearsal, you will learn instantly how very dedicated to the work of this theater our actors are. They’ll be the ones in the down parkas and scarves wrapped tightly around their chins.
