PLAY SYNOPSIS

SCENE 1

Opens at Princess Rapunzel’s 9th birthday party. The kids onstage are singing and playing, but the Count gives rules because he doesn’t like parties. He explains he is Rapunzel’s guardian (he is in charge of taking care of her) because her parents died when she was younger. We learn Rapunzel will become Queen on her 19th birthday. Mirabella enters and tries to do a spell to make a rabbit appear, but she’s lost her “wherewithal” and can’t remember the spell. She asks an audience member to help to participate in spell. It doesn’t work. Rapunzel and Tadleigh agree to help her find her wherewithal. The kids continue playing hide and seek.

SCENE 2

While playing hide and seek Rapunzel and Tadleigh come to the base of a forbidden tower. Rapunzel climbs it to hide but Tadleigh is too afraid. Rapunzel gets stuck and they ask Mirabella to help. The Count comes along and changes Mirabella’s spell to make tower grow high up into the clouds. A bird named Rainbow is the only one that can reach Rapunzel.

SCENE 3

Rapunzel is alone in the tower and sad she is missing her birthday party. The cloud drifts in and is sad too. They become friends. We learn that the Count wants Rapunzel to stay in the tower forever because he is next in line to be king. Mirabella can’t help because she’s still lost her wherewithal. All are sad because they don’t know how to save Rapunzel. Cloud begins to cry so hard she creates a storm.

SCENE 4

10 years have passed and it is the morning of Rapunzel’s 19th birthday. Her hair is now a VERY long braid. She and Rainbow have a song and dance. Cloud enters and helps tidy Rapunzel’s braid then they nap. Back on ground, Tadleigh and the Count come by. The Count asks the audience to stand and practice bowing to him as the new king. He asks Tadleigh to bury a very mysterious box at the base of the tower. There Tadleigh discovers the end of Rapunzel’s braid and is pulled up into the tower and reunited with Rapunzel. Mirabella comes by on ground and thinks she has found her wherewithal. She found Tadleigh’s birth certificate and he is actually Rapunzel’s brother and next in line for the throne. The Count is very sad. Mirabella finds the buried mystery box, which is her potions. The tower shrinks back down and all are reunited. Rapunzel and Tadleigh are thrilled to learn they are brother and sister. All rejoice at Rapunzel’s 19th birthday party.  Even the Count may finally get his prunes.
