2009 Safety Sheet

Safety Sheet for

Theatre Arts Summer Camp

For your safety, we must be certain that you understand and follow these rules:

Off Limit Areas:  1) Light booth  2) costume and storage attic  3) kitchen and bar areas  4) box office  5)  Silo  6) Basement of the rehearsal barn  7) Rob and Sunny’s office

General Rules of Behavior for safety, enjoyment and respect  for theatre property:

 1)  Eating and drinking will not be permitted anywhere in the main building at any time.  We will not have  an official “snack break,” but you may bring a healthy snack or drink and eat (with your instructor’s permission) during an outdoor activity.  The theater does not have adequate space for refrigeration.  Therefore,     please bring your snack in a “cool pack.”  Garbage must be collected and thrown into outdoor dumpster.  Water bottles are recommended.

        2)   Do not run inside the building—in the hallways, corridors or backstage areas.  The floors of the theater       are  concrete; the backstage areas are crowded and often not well lighted.  Please be cautious.

  3)  Do not climb or stand on the stage wall.  It is fragile and so are you.  Do not sit on the tables, or climb or    stand on or put your feet on the chairs.

  4)  DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING BACKSTAGE OR ONSTAGE OR IN THE GREEN ROOM OR IN EITHER OF THE DRESSING ROOMS THAT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM RESEMBLES A PROP OR A COSTUME!!! This is a working theater.  Production props and costumes are stored throughout the theater and the rehearsal barn in all sorts of crazy places.  Little Lake will have as many as four productions that share the same space at the same time. Please understand our concern for the placement, treatment and organization of props and costumes. Best rule of thumb:  If it doesn’t belong to you, do not touch it.

        5)  When working in the rehearsal barn, please do not sit on the rider mower or on any of the furniture in storage or currently being used in production.

  6)  Be cautious when crossing the access road in front of the barn.  There is only minimal traffic to the cottages, but caution is always advisable.

  7)  The phones are off-limits except in cases of emergency, and then only after having received permission from a camp instructor.  Cell-phone use is off-limits unless permission is obtained from camp staff.

  8)  No chewing gum will be permitted.

        9)  Appropriate dress:  Wear clothing that is school-appropriate.  Please wear closed-toed shoes (ie. no flip flops or sandals.)  Dress appropriately for the weather. You will be involved in many movement activities that will require you to be sitting or acting in the grass.

      10)  Parents: please inform camp staff of any medical conditions or health concerns prior to the first      day of camp.

In short, we ask that you use good common safety sense, and show respect and support for each other and for Little Lake property.  Little Lake Theatre retains the right to dismiss any camper who exhibits behavior that is unsafe, disruptive, disrespectful or inappropriate.

A SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENTS:  Please be timely in dropping off and picking up your kids.  Please call the theatre to notify us if your child will be absent from camp.  Also, please notify us if there is an emergency or if you will be tardy in picking up your child.  Though our phones will not be answered during most morning hours, we will check our voice mail during our break so you may certainly leave a message:  724-745-6300.  Cell phones must be turned off during camp; and messages may be checked only at the instructor’s discretion.

A written note must be provided from each camper’s parents regarding carpools and pickup changes. The note must be signed and clearly indicate the person responsible for picking up your child after camp. No camper will be permitted to ride home with anyone other than his/her parent or guardian without written permission.

At orientation, parents will be given information about specific drop off and pick up areas.

Four complimentary tickets for the Showcase Performance will be distributed to each camper.  Please bring your tickets on the day of the performance.  Our seating is limited and, therefore, we kindly ask families to adhere to this attendance number.  Seating for the showcase is non-reserved (first come-first seated.)   The doors will open for seating one half hour before the performance.

Please note:  We strongly encourage consistent attendance during the two weeks of summer camp since, in production work, the ensemble is strengthened by the commitment of all group members.

There will be only one orientation for both camp sessions on Saturday, July 18, 2009, 10:00-11:30 a.m.

New campers and their parent(s) are strongly encouraged to attend Camp Orientation.  Please submit this completed Safety Sheet at the time of your application or bring it to the meeting.  Campers who have attended our Theatre Arts Summer Camp in the past are not required to attend Orientation, however, the Safety Sheet must be returned no later than the first day of your camp session. Campers WILL NOT be allowed to participate in any camp activities until Little Lake has received the completed the Safety Sheet.

We have read and clearly understand all of the above.  Signed,
