Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play
November 2-19, 2023

Sometimes gritty and hyper-realistic, sometimes an epic musical; the play examines the power of theatre and the human dedication to telling stories.  Shortly after an apocalyptic event, six survivors gather around a campfire and distract themselves by retelling an episode of the Simpsons.  Seven years later, this and other snippets of pop culture have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. Seventy-five years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created. An ode to live theater (and the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages), Mr. Burns is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.

Critic Laura Collins-Hughes wrote, "… it’s the kind of bold, inventive show that sends you staggering out onto the street afterward, stunned and exhilarated, not sure quite what you’ve just experienced because you’ve never seen its like before."
